Qatar Airways to move JFK Airport operations to The New Terminal One next year

Qatar Airways is the latest airline to announce its plans to move its New York City operations to The New Terminal One (NTO) at JFK International Airport.


As part of the the Doha, Qatar-based carrier's move to JFK Airport's NTO next year, Qatar Airways will also unveil its first dedicated lounge in New York City and the United States. The new premium Qatar Airways lounge will cover an area of 15,000 square feet featuring direct access to boarding from the lounge. The new facility will also feature other amenities including VIP check-in services, relaxation zones, prayer rooms, children’s play areas, premium dining options, and duty-free shopping for Qatar Airways Business Class passengers.


“We, at Qatar Airways, look forward to launching our operations at JFK Airport’s New Terminal One and welcoming Qatar Airways Business Class passengers to our first-ever exclusive lounge in the US,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.


Regarding the new Qatar Airways lounge that will open at the NTO, Al-Meer said: “Our new state-of-the-art lounge will provide an enhanced experience at each touchpoint and complement our industry-leading Business Class travel experience.”


“Our move demonstrates the evolution of Qatar Airways’ long-standing commitment to connecting global travellers to New York and expanding our services in the destination integral to our network in the US,” Al-Meer further added.

The NTO is part of New York City Port Authority's USD $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport. Currently built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal 1, the first phase – including the new arrivals and departure halls, and the first 14 gates – is expected to be opened 2026. The project completion is expected to take place in 2030. With a designed area of 2.4 million square feet featuring 23 gates, it will be the largest terminal at JFK Airport.

Qatar Airways joins 15 other airlines – including fellow oneworld member airline Royal Air Maroc – who will operate from The New Terminal One. Other airlines that have committed to shift their JFK Airport operations to the NTO include Air France/KLM, Etihad, Korean Air, EVA Air, SAS, Philippine Airlines, Turkish Airlines, China Airlines, Air China, and Gulf Air.
